On Advances in Geosciences with special Reference to coastal Hazards
Coastal hazards resulting from short-term low-frequency events have high-magnitude and far-reaching impacts on vulnerable coastal zones worldwide, subjecting millions of people to flooding, erosion, and other dangers. Kerala’s densely populated 590 km coast is particularly susceptible to seasonal erosion caused by steep monsoonal waves, with risks extending over 300 kilometers. Its unique topographic, physio-graphic, and socio-economic characteristics have drawn the attention of national and international scientists, especially in the face of increasing population and industrialization. To address these challenges and promote sustainable development, the Diamond Jubilee Annual Convention of the Indian Geophysical Union (IGU) will be held at Cochin University of Science and Technology, focusing on topics ranging from minerals and energy resources to oceans, natural hazards, and more, while striving to integrate data collection for managing global and regional aspects.
Venue: Cochin University of Science and Technology
University in Kochi, Kerala
Dates: Nov 22-24 2023
